Energy and Transport
Among the areas practiced at Janson Baugniet, an entire Department is
devoted to Energy and Transport Law. A team of four lawyers works in the
international, European and national sectors of the energy and transport
and has advised numerous Governments, regulatory bodies and companies
in this field.
Our Energy & Transport Department specialises in the liberalization of
the energy (electricity, gas and oil) and transport (railways, road, air)
markets in European Member states such as Belgium, France, Luxembourg,
United Kingdom and Romania, as well as in non European countries such as
Turkey, Iran, Morocco, Qatar and Tajikistan.
The Energy & Transport Department of Janson Baugniet is headed by Guy
Block, Head of Department and Partner in Janson Baugniet. Guy is member of
both the Brussels and the Paris Bar and has been practicing in the field of
the energy and transport for more than 20 years. He has acquired extensive
knowledge and experience in those sectors.
As the European energy markets liberalized and the concerns for energy
supply and environmental protection increased, the Energy & Transport
Department developed a sound expertise in energy law and advised and
assisted clients in the European and non-European electricity and gas
sectors on a wide range of regulatory, commercial and corporate
matters.
Our Department developed its practice in both the public and the private
energy sectors. Broadly, one third of our practice is provided to
Governments and public authorities while the other two thirds consist in
assistance to national and international private market players, such as
electricity producers, liquefied natural gas shippers or electricity and
gas suppliers. This practice is intended to both national and international
actors. Almost half of the practice today is devoted to projects abroad
(both inside and outside EU) while the other half is performed for Belgian
matters.
Our practice covers all steps of the energy process, namely from the
drafting of the necessary laws and regulations to the supply of gas and
electricity to final customers. We have notably been active in regulatory
issues, in advice to new entrants, in permitting, in renewable energy
issues and in international cooperation.
Along with the liberalization of the energy markets, Guy Block has a long
practice in the liberalizations of the transport markets, having advised
both public and private entities in regulatory, commercial and litigation
issues. Guy Block’s expertise with regard to Transport Law includes
notably the railway, air and road sectors.
