Block, Guy

Guy Block is the Head of the Energy and Transport Department in Janson Baugniet, Brussels, Belgium. He has been a practicing lawyer in the field of the energy and transport law for more than 20 years and has acquired extensive knowledge and experience in those sectors. Guy notably assisted in the liberalization of the electricity and gas markets in European Member states such as Belgium, France, Luxembourg and Romania, as well as in non European countries such as Turkey, Iran, Morocco, Qatar and Tajikistan. Besides the drafting of various legislative and regulatory texts, he took part in many international conferences and published several articles and books devoted to the energy.
Main areas of practice include the liberalization of the energy (electricity and gas) and transport markets (railways, air and road). Guy acts frequently before civil and administrative courts, and the European Court of Justice. He has significant experience in the assessment, drafting and evaluation of legislation relating to the liberalization of energy markets, drafting of energy supply contracts, B.O.T. of power plants (gas turbine, wind-farm, nuclear, coal), LNG, pipeline matters, as well as financial arrangements.
Guy acts as a national and international arbitrator before the ICC, LCIA, IAI and ASA.
Guy has a Doctorate of Law (PHD), Master of Laws (LL.M.), Master degree in Transport and Certificate of English Law and a Law degree from the University of Liège. Guy speaks French, English and Dutch languages. He also has basic knowledge of Russian.
