Céline Masschelein

Céline co-leads the firm’s business crime practice. She has extensive experience in corporate and finance (criminal) litigation matters and all types of investigations.

 
 

Céline has over twenty years’ experience in complex (criminal) litigation matters and all types of investigations (internal, regulatory and criminal), with a specific expertise regarding the interaction between civil and criminal proceedings.  She has a specific expertise in (i) corporate and financial criminal law including proactive risk management and compliance issues, (ii) liability related corporate litigation and (iii) professional liability issues (especially in the legal and financial sector).

Celine is fluent in Dutch, French and English.

    • Representing the former CEO of a bankrupt listed company in his defense against the FSMA, the public prosecutor and other stakeholders;

    • Representing a major Belgian leasing company as a civil claimant in criminal proceedings regarding a million-dollar fraud with state subventions;

    • Represent a former director of a bankrupt stock broker, which collapsed after a severe prudential control in a criminal investigation and civil proceedings resulting from investor losses claims, directors liability claims and freezing orders;

    • Advising clients in the drafting of compliance programs;

    • Assisting a former Fortis Bank employee who was indicted in the framework of the criminal investigation focusing on the financial reporting in the framework of the subprime crisis.
