Guy heads Janson’s Energy, Climate Change & Mobility practice and is one of the most reputed Energy Lawyers in Belgium and Europe. Furthermore, Guy is very active on the international Energy scene, he is an international and EU arbitrator and has drafted numerous Energy Acts and recommendations.

 
 

With over thirty-five years' experience in energy and transport law, Guy has been involved in the liberalization of the electricity and gas markets in several European Union member states, as well as in many countries outside the EU.

His areas of expertise include foreign investment protection arbitration and litigation; infrastructure projects such as the construction of transport frameworks, telecommunications and waste management, to name but a few; institutional policies and frameworks, the design and deployment of energy efficiency measures, the promotion of renewable energy policies, strategies and action plans and the liberalization of energy and transport markets, tax and tariff issues.

Guy is the author of various legislative and regulatory texts. He is a member and arbitrator of : EU pools of arbitrators and experts in trade and sustainable development, ICSID - investment protection, ICC (Belgium), CEPANI (Belgium), SHIAC (China), KLRCA/AIAC (Malaysia), CIETAC (China), MCC (Mauritius), IAI (Paris).

He speaks English, French and Dutch.

    • Assistance in promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency

    • Assistance in implementing European Directives and elaboration of institutional implementation frameworks to support : hydro, solar and wind powers.

    • Legal and technical support to international governments in the field of energy storage and green hydrogen

    • Assistance to international governments with the drafting, negotiation and adaptation of legislative provisions to promote and support decentralised production and supply of electricity

    • Assistance to the Belgian governments with the setting up of federal and regional green certificate schemes

    • Litigation relating to transport and distribution tariffs, to offshore production of electricity, to the taxes applicable to the use of the gas and electricity grids and to grid access

    • Determination of the remuneration mechanism for Belgian capacity and preparation of the legislative framework

    • Establishment of a European consortium for rail transport by means of high speed lines (including financial, technical and legal issues) and creation of a joint-venture for the establishment of a multimodal road and rail company

    • Litigation before civil and administrative courts, both Belgian and European (Constitutional Court, Council of State, Court of Justice of the European Union, European Court of Human Rights), as well as before arbitral institutions.
