Janson’s Energy, Climate Change & Mobility department is one of the Belgian’s most renowned and rewarded practices in the Market

Headed by Guy Block, the team advises many public authorities (such as governments, regulators, network operators, public authorities, etc) and private entities (such as electricity and gas suppliers, natural gas transporters, consumer groups, investors, industrialists, etc) in the various challenges they face, both on domestic and international level. 

The practice offers numerous services including the drafting of contracts, laws, decrees, orders, technical regulations and network codes as well as the conduct of negotiations with international and European bodies such as the European Commission. 

The team has a significant experience in the fields of Transport (railway, air & road), Energy (gas, nuclear, renewable energy, international cooperation etc) and climate change. 

Track record.

 

  • Assisting the Belgian federal and regional governments in the implementation of the Kyoto Protocol and the transposition into federal and regional law of multiple European Directives

  • Assisting the Belgian energy regulator regarding tariff structures in the electricity and gas sectors

  • Drafting general terms and conditions regarding the transportation of goods and containers by train

  • Representing a major electricity producer and supplier with respect to electricity tariffs 

  • Representing multiple clients in several disputes on renewable energy support in the Flemish region (green and cogeneration certificates)

  • Representing various clients in numerous disputes relating to air transport and the CMR Convention as well as the Warsaw Conventions (including parcel transport)

  • Representing a major Belgian industrial enterprise in a dispute regarding tariff schemes for transport related services

  • Assisting the energy administration of an African State with regards to third party access to its electricity grid (drafting of contracts, training negotiation skills)

  • Assisting the European Commission with regard to a study on regulatory matters concerning the development of the North and Irish Sea offshore grid

  • Assisting a major gas producer and supplier with regards to its helium sales and purchase agreements (take-or-pay clauses, liability, etc.)
